An exquisite, aromatic chocolate with 82% Arriba cacao from Rio Verde, Esmeraldas in northern Ecuador. Smooth melting with a dark, full-bodied character.

Kuná is produced in Ecuador in an allergen-free environment. Specifically, this means the chocolate is free of gluten, tree nuts , nuts, sesame, milk, soy, and lecithin. The sustainably grown beans are hand-selected. Only the best beans are used and processed into the finest chocolate within the shortest possible time after harvesting, fermentation, and roasting. So, everything is fresh.

Out of nowhere, Kuná won first prize at the El Salon del Cacao y chocolate Ecuatoriano in Guayaquil (Ecuador) in 2012.

More than fair trade

Kuna is a brand of the Ecuadorian company FreshCosta, which – by our standards – pursues a remarkable social policy. What we call fair trade is quite normal in Ecuador. At Kuna, it represents social responsibility – firmly embedded in the entire concept. The welfare of producers, job creation, and the cultivation of high-quality cocoa are essential components.


A balanced 82%
Just as with the "Asociación Wiñak," there is also a collaboration with the "Unión de Asociaciones Artesanales Eloy Alfaro de Esmeraldas" in central-northern Ecuador, based on similar charitable ideals. This is the province in the upper left corner of the country. An interesting fact is that the population there is predominantly of African descent. This is allegedly due to the sinking of a slave ship off the coast.
The cocoa from this region is very balanced, with a fat content of 7%. It's precisely because of this balanced flavor profile that many excellent chocolates with higher cocoa content exist. Not bitter, but pure, with a complete flavor.

Eloy Alfaro won the “Aromas del Ecuador” award in 2013 with her cocoa mass (the precursor to chocolate – also known as cacao liquor).
