How to easily distinguish cheap chocolate from premium chocolate

So unterscheidest Du ganz einfach Billigschokolade von Premiumschokolade

Have you ever hesitated to buy expensive chocolate in a store because you didn't know whether the chocolate was high quality or whether someone was simply selling cheap chocolate for a lot of money?

Today we want to help you distinguish between cheap and high-quality chocolate using simple criteria!

  1. Look carefully at the list of ingredients! The fewer ingredients, the higher the quality of the chocolate. Chocolate should actually only contain two ingredients: cocoa beans and sugar! Good chocolate is free of artificial flavors (for example, natural vanilla instead of vanillin), and fruit powder or fruit concentrate is used, if at all! Lecithin, soy lecithin, and clarified butter should also be taboo. In summary: In addition to the cocoa bean, high-quality chocolate often contains only real cocoa butter and sugar, although sugar shouldn't be the main ingredient!
  2. Consider the price! Very good chocolate is expensive to produce; it can never be offered at the price paid for cheap chocolate in the supermarket; it can easily cost more than €20 per 100g! This is because its preparation is a complex, laborious process! First, the chocolate is allowed to ferment in a relaxed manner and its tannins are removed. Then it is concentrated, which removes bitter substances from the mass and allows the flavors to develop! In cheaper chocolate, these processes are shortened, and the poor or lacking flavor is compensated for by artificial flavors and, above all, sugar and clarified butter!
Attention: High-priced chocolate is not always high quality!
  3. When the chocolate is unwrapped in front of you, you can recognize good chocolate by:
    It is uniform in color.
The chocolate breaks with a loud bang when you break it.
The fracture edges should be fine-grained rather than very crumbly.
    It tastes intensely of cocoa.
The chocolate is creamy and fine-pored and does not feel like “sand in the mouth”.
It appears matte, with a slight shine and has no air bubbles
  4. And when you can finally enjoy the chocolate in your mouth:
    It tastes intensely of cocoa
The taste is natural, not too bitter (depending on the cocoa content)
The finish is interesting and long-lasting.
It tastes incredibly delicious and you are sure that this bar of chocolate will not survive today 😉
